A bit about me...

Hi I'm Pia,
I’m a pen and ink artist based in Wareham, on the Dorset coast of the UK, where the surrounding wildlife and landscapes are a constant source of inspiration. My intricate, hand-drawn artworks explore the relationship between patterned regularity and organic animal forms, reflecting a deep fascination with the natural world. This self-taught style began as a form of meditative doodling to manage anxiety and has since evolved into an immersive creative practice.
My process begins outdoors, walking, observing, and photographing wildlife both locally and on my travels. These encounters help capture the essence and character of each subject, which I then refine through sketches back in my studio. I work in pen and ink, gradually building texture and depth, referring to a ‘pattern bank’ inspired by natural foraged objects and the symmetry of mandalas. This approach allows me to balance precision with intuition, inviting viewers to experience a similar sense of curiosity, wonder and connection with the nature world.
Today I showcase works at exhibitions and in a selection of galleries and independent shops across the UK. I lead mindful drawing workshops, where I share techniques and encourage creative calm. I also find particular joy in crafting bespoke commissions, with a background in textile design (BA Hons) allowing a wide variety of special projects. The application of this style feels truly limitless. Career highlights include winning the Batsford Prize, solo exhibition Intricate Wilderness, and contributing to The Great Tail Trail in support of Julia’s House Children’s Hospice.
